Chickadee InformationChickadees are small songbirds found in Canada and USA. Chickadees are named after their calls. The typical call is a "chick-a-dee-dee-dee". There are seven chickadee species that breed in North America: Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus), Carolina Chickadee (Poecile carolinensis), Mountain Chickadee (Poecile gambeli), Boreal Chickadee (Poecile hudsonicus), Chestnut-backed Chickadee (Poecile rufescens), Gray-headed Chickadee (Poecile cinctus), Mexican Chickadee (Poecile sclateri). All of them have a characteristic black cap and bib with white cheeks. The Mountain Chickadee is the only chickadee in North America with a white stripe on the eye area.
